About the project
The Great Sandwich Pic-Knit is a fun community-led project which invites you, members of the great knitting public, to participate in a growing display of knitted sandwiches housed at Whitby’s Captain Cook Memorial Museum. The pic-knit celebrates the achievements of the 4th Earl of Sandwich – friend and patron of Captain James Cook, a great supporter of voyages of exploration, reformer of naval dockyards and, legend has it, the creator of the world’s most famous snack!
Launching in September 2011 with a special day of knitting activities, our Sandwich display will grow throughout the year culminating in an exhibition Summer 2012. The museum will be hosting themed activities, prize-giving days and competitions for the duration of the project – be sure to check back for the latest news & events!
